Random Thoughts: Visit is wonderful reunion

I'm sure many Marionites remember Dr. Vu. Imagine my surprise when he, his beautiful wife Elmira, and their handsome sons, three of them, appeared on my doorstep. It has probably been 15 years since they left Marion for North Carolina. The three boys were just skinny little kids when they left and now they are good-looking, strapping young men. It was a wonderful reunion.

I suppose like me, everyone is overcome by the terrible tragedy being played out in New Orleans and the area around there. How hard it must be to lose everything — even family. It must be hard too, on those who are trying to help them reclaim a partial bit of their lives. A very traumatic experience.

I am just about through with the book, "Dinner at Antoine's," and find the description of New Orleans so nostalgic of that unique city. In fact our whole country is affected by the horror of it all and will never be the same again.

September is here. Where did the summer go? Art in the Park starts a series of happenings about to take place throughout the fall season. It is a time in which to take account of the past year and to look forward to the year ahead. A time of change. Parents who send their children for the first time away from home to college will feel the change and challenge. It's a whole new ball game!
