Random Thoughts: We can make our own fortunes
I never have wanted to be a clairvoyant, but once in awhile I would like to peek into the future. I'll have to admit I have had my fortune told a few times. Whenever a carnival came to town, there always was a little, old lady dressed in beads and bracelets sitting in front of a small tent, ready to divulge your future.
One time the fortune teller told a girlfriend that there would be a death in her family. She went into a panic and rushed back to the tent and demanded to know the particulars. Of course, the woman smoothed everything over and made the girl happy. If those soothsayers know so much, why aren't they rich?
The other day I happened on a TV program where a panel of six people were discussing the future of our country.
What do you think of an army made up of robots? That made me think of the old Chinese ruler who had thousands of soldiers made of clay and hid them in a huge cave. They were to protect him in the next world. I visited Zian, the place of the soldiers. What a sight!
Here are some of the other things discussed by the panel — babies (do we want them?), communication, immigration, health, education, earth care, and others.
Now, this is serious. I thought of entertainment — on TV and in the theaters. We sure could use some improvement there.
Are we just going to coast along, let come what may, or are we going to make an effort to have an impact on our future? It seems to me that we had better wake up and smell the coffee!
