Random Thoughts: Wild rides prevent leisurely sightseeing
I know you have heard of a terrible bus accident in Chile. The bus tumbled off a cliff with a carload of Americans. I think most were killed. They had been on a cruise and this was just an extra side trip. What a sad end to a pleasure cruise.
It brought back a memory of a bus tour I took. We were on a cruise, leaving Naples, Italy, and going to the Isle of Capri. I was so excited as I felt it would be so romantic. The song was going through my mind. Of course, I knew "beans" about the topography of the island.
Anyway, we all loaded on a bus for the trip. The bus was driven by the "Wild Man of Capri." He put it in full speed ahead and as we went up and up the mountainside the bus swayed back and forth as we tore around the switchback curves of the road. I never have been so scared. I almost forgot the romantic atmosphere. I did see some gorgeous, bright-colored flowers. I'm not a boat lover but I was so glad to get back on ours, ocean roll or not.
Of course, I've ridden on some roads in Colorado, often feeling that two wheels were hanging out in mid-air as I looked down the side of the big cliffs.
We learn to trust the road-builders and hopefully the driver of the car is as safe as they come. If not we would miss a lot.
I'm reading a large book about Abraham Lincoln and the men who helped to get rid of slavery. Those were hard times, too.
Don't forget to vote "yes."
