REC activities to start soon

With summer comes Marion-USD 408 REC activities.

Below is a list of what will be available for local youth during the summer months.

swim team

An information meeting for parents and participants will be held at 7 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) in the Marion Elementary School multi-purpose room.

The fee is $30 without a swimsuit, and registration is due May 16.

Anyone unable to attend the meeting can find a registration form at the MES office, City of Marion offices, or online at www.marioncoks.com.

MES principal Rod Garman will be head coach.

softball umpire and coaches clinic

Bob McMahon, a Kansas ASA Region three commissioner, and ASA umpire Roger Krause will host a umpire and coaches clinic at 7:30 p.m. May 14 at the Marion Baseball/Softball complex.

The cost is $40 for umpires and $20 for coaches.

Anyone interested must sign up by May 9.

Baby-sitting clinic

Anyone who is 11 years or older can participate May 28 in a baby-sitting clinic hosted by Sherry Hess and Janice Waner.

The class, which is limited to 12, will be at 1 p.m. in the city building basement.

The $5 registration fee is due by May 21.

adult golf

Long-time instructor Jack Webb will hold an adult golf clinic June 9-13 at Marion Country Club.

The program will run from 5:30-6:30 each night, and registration is $25.

junior golf

Marion High School golf coach Rex Ostmeyer will run a golf clinic June 16-20 for anyone between the ages of eight and 18.

The clinic will be from 8-10:30 a.m. each day at Marion Country Club.

The fee is $25 and anyone interested can register with Ostmeyer by calling him at 620-382-2879.

gymnastics

Gymnastics lessons will be in Marion every Sunday from June 14-July 19.

Erin Richmond will teach the class that is $40 and tentatively scheduled to be in the Marion Elementary School multi-purpose room.

Enrollment will be from 6-8 p.m. May 21 in the city building basement.

Anyone unable to attend can still register by June 1.

charm school

Any young women interested in charm school can register for a class at Marion Elementary School teacher Ginger Becker's house.

Those participating will learn about making positive impressions, being happy with their appearance, telephone and cell phone etiquette, treating others with respect, hair and makeup tips, and much more.

Each session will be limited to eight girls, and they will dine in a formal setting.

The fee is $20.
