REC outdoor activities increase
A list of activities sponsored by Marion-Florence REC appears below. More outdoor activities are planned as the weather is improving. For more information on any activity, call Margo Yates at 620-382-3425.
A canyon hike near Durham is planned for 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Fee is $2 due Friday. The tour will meet in front of Marion City Building with guide Jandee Moore. Participants should bring a sack lunch.
First time home buyers are invited to an informational seminar at 7 p.m. Monday in the city building. Fee is $1 due Friday. Local bankers will explain what is needed to qualify for a home mortgage loan.
Dog obedience classes start Tuesday and last eight weeks. Sessions are from 6 to 7 p.m. at Animal Health Center of Marion County. Lin Boucher is the instructor. Fee is $80 due Tuesday. Owners must be 18 or older; those younger must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs must be at least six months old and be current on vaccinations. Call 382-8800 for more information.
Fishing derby is 8 to 10 a.m. May 11 at Marion County Lake. Children age 5 to 15 are invited to bring pole, tackle, and favorite bait to the event. Fee is $3 due Friday or $5 day of event. Instructor is Jack Hett. Additional volunteers are asked to contact Margo Yates at 382-3425.
Money management for seniors is offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 30 at Butler of Marion. Fee is $5 due May 24.
Junior golf program starts June 3 and continues through July 22 at Marion Country Club. Children 8 to 18 are invited. Fee is $25 due May 30.
Walk and chat is offered at 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting April 8 at Marion Stadium. Participants should change into walking shoes used only at the track, so the rubberized surface isn't damaged by grit or stones.
MES Gym is open 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays to those in middle school and older. Clean shoes must be worn.
Decorative painting is an ongoing class taught by Judy Christensen. Fee is $8 per class. For more information, call her at 382-3141.
