Record team defeats Hillsboro
Marion County Record 12-and-under girls' team remained undefeated June 1 after a 11-7 win over Hillsboro Ampride.
The Marion girls were off to a lackluster start, allowing Hillsboro to score three runs each in the first and second innings.
Josie Freeby and Frankie Clark each caught fly balls in the third inning, giving Marion the momentum it needed to get back in the game. The Marion team added five runs to the board in the third inning, tying the score at six-all.
A solid pitching effort by Kristen Steinborn and strong behind-the-plate catching by Emily Rogers kept the Ampride team scoreless in the third and fourth innings. Marion added another five runs in the fourth inning, bringing the score to 11-6.
Steinborn began the fifth inning pitching a strike-out and Tiffany Christensen picked off the lead runner on a steal from second to third base. Hillsboro managed another run in the fifth inning but Anna Laurin sealed the fate of the Ampride team when she caught a fly ball in left field, bringing the game to a close with an 11-7 score.
