Red hat society brings elegance
My friend Nadine Hoch, now living in Arlington, Texas, sent me a huge article from the newspaper telling about some ladies in Fort Worth who have an organization called the "Red Hat Society."
They meet in a tea room, all wearing red hats. The idea has become a national organization with real conventions, where as many as 2,000 women attend. It was sparked by a poem, "I should wear purple
Some Marion gals heard of a restaurant in Cottonwood Falls which has "red-hat day" once a month, so they put on their hats and drove over there. They reported that there were women from all over, some came from as far as Topeka. They had a fun time.
I have three red hats. Does anyone want to borrow one?
I remember when Ella Richter had a tea room above where the antique store is. It was just a darling place. We felt so "ritzy" when we went there.
My most favorite tea room was in the wonderful Innes department store in Wichita. No shopping spree was complete without having lunch in the Innes Tea Room. I can still taste the wonderful rolls they served with their delicious chicken salad.
Not only that, they put on a fashion show with real models parading among the tables, displaying the latest fashions.
What happened to elegance?
