Red Ribbon Week begins with scavenger hunt
A number of Activities for Red Ribbon Week are occurring this week in Marion schools.
A community scavenger hunt is under way with clues on community channel 22. Participants are to answer the anti-drug clues, find the red ribbon, and return it to the central office at 101 N. Thorp to receive a prize.
Sixth graders from Marion Elementary School will participate in a drug seminar called the "Drugstore Project" on Wednesday that will teach the students about legal and illegal drugs.
On Thursday, the "grim reaper' will visit Marion High School.
Tombstones are placed in three locations on the Marion High School campus with statistical information regarding alcohol and accidents.
The tombstones read:
— In the past decade, four times as many Americans died in drunk driving accidents than were killed in the Vietnam War;
— Half of the 220,000 people killed in alcohol-related car accidents is equal to a 747 passenger plane crashing three times a week;
— 16 people die from alcohol-related accidents during a school day.
