Red Uphoff

Albert C. "Red" Uphoff, 85, died May 28, 2003, at his home in Hutchinson.

He was born March 3, 1918, near Peabody, the son of the late Frank E. and Lily F. (Jones) Uphoff.

He moved to Reno County 10 years ago, from Marion County. He retired in 1980 from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church, formerly attended Chase Christian Church, was a Sunday school teacher at Florence Christian Church and a deacon at both Marion and Abbyville Christian churches.

He was a 50 year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellow, Reno Lodge 99, Pratt Encampment 98, Central Kansas 21 Patriot Militant, Esther Rebekah 458 of Newton, Myrtle Rebekah 28 of Hutchinson, and had been a ticket taker at Kansas State Fair for many years.

He and Alice R. Stamp were married July 27, 1942, at El Dorado. She survives. Other survivors include sons Albert Fred Uphoff of Belleville and Melvin Uphoff Sr. of Hutchinson; daughter, Rosalie Spaniol of Hutchinson; brother, Frank Uphoff of Slidell, La.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

His brother, Elmer, parents, and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

Services were held Monday morning at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence. Pastors Wayne Pittman and D.D. Hall officiated.

Special services were presented by the Odd Fellows following the funeral at Hutchinson.

A memorial has been established in his name with Crossroads Christian Church and Vision of IOOF.
