Remember yellow mums?

How many of you (ladies) remember that you just couldn't go to a football game unless you had a huge yellow mum pinned to your coat? Of course, there would be a small colored ribbon (purple for K-State) attached to it. What a lovely, romantic custom.

I'm reading a novel, Standing in the Rainbow, by Fannie Flagg. Remember her and Fried Green Tomatoes? It was hilarious and this is pretty funny, too. Tom Brokaw has written another book. He is just full of them. I think this one is about his life. It should be interesting if he tells all.

I was disappointed to read that Bob Greene was in trouble. He wrote the story about the wonderful people in North Platte, Neb., who fed the soldiers as they went through during World War II.

As I ate my breakfast egg this morning, I got to thinking that eggs must be the most important food in the world. There seems to be no limit as to what you can do with them. This one I would say was "over easy." I remember my little two-year-old granddaughter visiting me asked for "dip'en." After a struggle, I found she wanted one in which she could dip her toast.

When my daughter and I were in China we stayed in a big Chinese hotel. You could order any kind of omelet. You could watch the Chinese chef make it. That was all he did. He would bring forth the most wonderful concoction and we had one every morning for breakfast while we were there.

How would we make cakes, cream pies, cookies, pancakes, and hundreds of other dishes without eggs?

A hard boiled egg, seasoned with butter, salt, and pepper is good, too. I love deviled eggs if they are seasoned just right. Aren't eggs wonderful!
