Residents prepare for Halloween

By GLADYS MANN

Church services were brought Sunday by Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Sherfy as speaker. Mrs. Sherfy played the piano.

Resident council met Monday morning. Several announcements were made including plans for the Halloween party. Residents will have a sack lunch supper and then gather for the kids on Halloween.

Ellen Darrow played a lot of old time favorites in the afternoon. It took us back a good many years. Afterward, the group exercises were led by May Hebrank.

Tuesday morning was Pretty Up time with Amanda McLinden doing nails.

In the afternoon we cut fall leaves from wall paper sample books with the Pilsen ladies, Magdalen Dvorak and Amelia Vinduska. The leaves will be pasted on the walls along the halls.

Prayer group was led Wednesday morning by Khrista Branson. In the afternoon Khrista read the Marion County Record. May Hebrank led group exercises.

Jim Hett came after supper and sang some very old hymns. He was accompanied by Ellen Darrow on the piano. Us old-timers remembered them — they aren't in our song books today.

Hymn singing was shared Thursday morning by Lois Winter and David and Shirley Bowers. In the afternoon we decorated brown bags with Halloween stickers for treats for the little trick or treaters on Halloween.

Oatmeal cookies were baked Friday morning with Amanda McLinden. In the afternoon Bingo was played with Amanda calling the numbers. Again, May Hebrank led group exercises.

Saturday morning was Polka hour with Gene Vinduska on the accordion. The very enjoyable surprise was Gene's son Mark joined him with his drums. Mark is so good on them and the two play so well. We hope Mark keeps coming — the accordion and drums really make you dance!

In the afternoon videos and movies were shown.

Well, it is Halloween time. Look out kids or the goblins will get you. That's what I was told as a kid.

We got to turn our clocks back to God's time. I don't see where the daylight savings is. God sets the time for sun rise and sun set.

That was President Hoover's idea in WWI so the farmers would get in the field earlier. At that time all farmers used horses. Now horses can only stand so many hours and work in the dark. They don't even think of the school children that have to get on buses so early.

Let's stay on God's time, please.
