Robert Silhan

Robert J. Silhan, 75, died at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, on May 24, 2003.

He was born May 26, 1927, at Marion, to William Lewis and Ella (Cerny) Silhan. On Aug. 2, 1958, he married Juanita June Dowell. Three sons were born, Mark, James, and David.

He was known as an electrician, plumber, and operator of Champlain Station with his brother-in-law, Arnold Holt, from 1984 to 1989. He also enjoyed selling crocheted items at county fairs.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Richard; and two sisters, Irene Silhan and Mary Ann Schafers.

Survivors include his wife Juanita, of Florence; three sons, Mark of Talmage, James of Salina, and David of Marion; one brother, Edward Silhan of Marion; and two sisters, Florence Holt of Marion and Rita May Steiner of Tampa.

The Rosary was held Wednesday evening at St. Mark Catholic Church in Marion, led by George Waner.

The Mass of the Resurrection was held Thursday morning at St. Mark Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish in Marion. The celebrant was Fr. Steve Gronert. Terry Holt served as lector. The vocalist was Madonna Schafers with Charlene Svitak as the organist.

Casketbearers were Bill and Edward Silhan Jr.; John, Ron, and Ken Steiner; and Tom McLinden.

Interment was at the cemetery in Pilsen.

A memorial has been established with St. Luke Living Center.
