Robert Stack

Robert Lee Stack, 97, died Oct. 9, 2006, at Emporia.

He was born July 22, 1909, in Amber, Okla., the son of George and Ada Lee Stack.

He graduated from Amber High School in 1929, staying in school longer than he needed to in order to play football. He attended college for two years, moving to Wichita in 1941.

He was hired by Boeing Company of Wichita, where he met his wife Sally. They were married May 16, 1943. He spent 30 months in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific. He returned to Kansas when World War II ended. He, Sally, and two children made their home in Abilene where he sold tractor tires for Montgomery Ward.

In 1949, he returned to Boeing and the family lived in Haysville. In 1960, he and Sally moved to California where his brother and two sisters lived. They returned to Kansas in 1967, moving to Marion in 1970 where they were involved in the renovating and decorating business.

Sally had a stroke in 1998 and the couple moved to Holiday Resort in Emporia. She died in 2005. Bob remained at the care facility until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, one son, and three great-grandsons.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Dawna and Lyle Denney, Madison; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Peggy Summerville, Marion; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Claney Cemetery, Marion.
