Robert Wegerer

Robert W. Wegerer, 84, farmer and stockman, died April 15, 2004, at his home near Marion.

Born Nov. 13, 1919, at Marion, he was the son of John and Gertrude (Winkley) Wegerer.

He attended the New Hope School District 55 and was a lifetime resident of the Spring Branch and Aulne communities.

On April 11, 1945, he married Pauline Patry at Immaculate Conception Spring Branch Catholic Church, rural Marion. The couple had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Easter Sunday with family and neighbors.

Known as a "die hard farmer," Robert was a sincere, hardworking man who was close to his family and neighbors. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, as well as his German heritage and profession as a wheat farmer.

He was a lifetime member of the Newton Knights of Columbus and a member of the National Farmers Union. He also was an active member of Holy Family Parish, Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Patry; and a son, Raymond John Wegerer.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; two sons and daughters-in-law, C. Robert and Karen Wegerer of Colwich and Lou and Judy Wegerer of Marion; and six grandchildren.

The rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Marion.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Father Steve Gronert officiating.

Jim Patry was lector. Mary Griffith was vocalist and organist was Charlene Svitak.

Casket bearers were Jennifer and Richard Bertematti, Matthew Wegerer, Stephen Wegerer, James Wegerer, Andrew Wegerer, and Allison Wegerer.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery with the Knights of Columbus participating.

Memorial funds have been established with the church and the Knights of Columbus.
