Roy Seibel
Roy Dean Seibel, 87, died July 22, 2003, at Marion.
Born Aug. 17, 1916, near Marion, he was the youngest son of Jacob and Gertrude (Lewellan) Seibel.
A hard worker from a young age, he lived his entire life in Marion County, growing up on a farm north of Burns.
He met his future wife, Evelyn, in the fall of 1936 in Florence, and they were married April 14, 1937.
The couple lived on Julia Jensen land and in 1939 bought the farm north of Burns from Roy's parents. They worked the land together until their only child, Kay, was born in 1945.
In 1978, they moved to Marion to the home of Roy's mother.
In 1992, they sold their home and moved into the Elgin House Apartments. Following a stroke in 1998, he moved to Marion Manor.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was known by many for telling stories of long ago.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold, in 1972; and a sister, Dorothy, in 1998.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Evelyn; a daughter and husband, Kay and Jewell Swift of Satanta; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at Marion Christian Church with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating.
Vocalist Greg Carlson sang "Beyond The Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Norma Riggs was organist.
Casket bearers were Archie Stenzel, Joe Randolph, Allen Swift, Dean Swift, Jon Swift, and Rick Branson.
Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
