Rueben Kohler

Rueben Gilbert Kohler, 80, Lincolnville, died Dec. 12, 2003, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

Born Sept. 30, 1912, at Liverpool, Pa., he was the son of the late Rev. John and Martha (Gilbert) Kohler.

His father drowned, fishing, while he served a church in Montana. His mother and three small children then returned to Lincolnville to be near family and friends.

Rueben graduated from Lost Springs High School in 1930.

He served in the Coast Guard, enlisting in 1934 until 1940. During World War 11 he again served his country, in the Army, and was discharged in 1946.

On June 1, 1941, he was married to Ethel A. Otte at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville. They had one daughter, Glenda.

He worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Herington, and Salina from 1950 until he retired in 1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1997, a sister, Bernice Bevan; and his brother Irvin Kohler.

Survivors include his daughter, Glenda (Mrs. Steve) Mills, Newton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother Max of Silver Spring, Md.

Pastor Alan Stahlecker officiated at the services, held Saturday morning at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville.

Kathleen Mills was the vocalist and Tabea Loveless the organist.

Casket bearers were John Bevan, Allen Steely, Brandon Mills, Bill Bevan, Glenn Steely, and Glenn Garton.

Burial was in Lincolnville Cemetery. A memorial has been established at the church.
