Ruth Bessel

Ruth H. Bessel, 91, Marion, died Aug. 14, 2002, at St. Luke Hospital.

The daughter of the late Clark and Martha (Schlotthauer) Johnston, she was born Oct. 23, 1910, at Marion.

She worked for 22 years in sales for Pauline's Dress Shop in Hobbs, N.M., prior to retiring.

She was married to Theodore Bessel who died in 1977.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Hobbs.

Seven years ago she moved from Hobbs, where she had resided since 1956, to Marion where she had been born and raised.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; son, Robert; brother, Albert Johnston; and two sisters, Alice Rempel and Edna Pauls.

Survivors include two brothers, Lloyd Johnston of Marion and Walt Johnston of Redfield; four sisters, Bernice Herbel, Josephine Stroda, and Elnora Siemens, all of Marion; Helen Reiswig of Sour Lake, Texas; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday morning at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion, with Burial to be at 10 a.m. Friday in Prairie Haven Cemetery at Hobbs, N.M.

Pastor Don Mashburn officiated at the funeral and Pastor Jack Lott will officiate at the burial service.

Greg Carlson was the vocalist and Lois Winter the organist at the service in Marion.
