Sami Beaston wins world championship in Tae Kwon-Do
Sami Beaston competed in the American Tae Kwon-Do Association's World Championship tournament held June 14 in Little Rock, Ark.
Sami took first place in weapons competition and second place in forms for 8-10 year old girls, purple, blue, and brown belts.
Sami has been in Tae Kwon-Do a little over a year and is currently a blue belt. Se tests for her brown belt June 20.
Belt ranking progression is white, orange, yellow, camo, green, purple, blue, brown, red, recommended black, and black.
A member of the leadership program, Beaston helps instruct Tiny Tigers and earns points toward state championship.
She ranked second in the state of Tennessee for both forms and sparring in 2002-2003 after accumulating points for only part of the season.
Sami is the daughter of Brook (a 1976 graduate of Marion High School) and Denise Beaston of Jackson, Tenn. And the granddaughter of Jack and Vernie Beaston of Marion.
