Sassy Senior Moments

By JANET BRYANT

Senior center reporter

We know the senior center is a good place to be for many reasons. We now can share a real life story. After Thelma Blosser got a good report from her doctor, he said to keep on doing whatever she was doing. She proceeded to tell him that she came to the senior center to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, to walk, and to have fun. And she intends to continue.

We reached 100 meals served April 12, including meals delivered.

National Licorice Day was observed April 12, with a choice of red or black licorice to nibble.

Virginia Downing was nominated by the county board as a Hometown Health Hero.

The Senior Center Sensations, our Walk Kansas team, was cited in the teams' newsletter for eating many fruits and vegetables, recording as well as miles walked.

Shirley Moore, Evelyn Jewett, and Marie Hoffner went to the dance April 17 at Lyons.

We welcomed Hilltop Manor people April 18 for lunch.

We honored our volunteers this week. The Dept. for Elderly honored drivers and the newsletter crew April 16. Virginia Downing recognized FISH drivers April 18. Then I honored our dining room volunteers, Meals on Wheels drivers, the roundtable ladies (who take money and mark off the reservation sheets), and Wilma Gilmer, who decorates the tables. We sang our 2008 volunteer song to the tune of "Home on the Range."

Come join us for lunch May 2. The art class taught by Jan Davis will display their work.
