Sassy Senior Moments
By JANET BRYANT

We now are in our summer mode, which means our regular diners are out and about on trips, visiting, going to big events. If you're not "out and about," come in for lunch.
We had birthday treats May 15 for LaDonna Giesbrecht. We honored Liberace's birthday May 16 by playing a CD of his music.
Our cooks tried a new recipe this past week — scalloped potatoes layered with hamburger and gravy. We decided it was one to serve again.
Unfortunately, in all our busy days, we failed to observe a couple of important events. One was Lumpy Rug Day and the other was May 16 when we could legally "remove the tags from your mattress" day.
Joyce Kellison brought in a gorgeous maroon/burgundy iris May 19, so the next day Shirley Bowers brought in some of her flowers to share.
Madonna Schafers set up a mini display of her artwork.
The senior center was closed May 21 so the three paid employees could attend training at Junction City. It was Theresa Graham's first time at training, but she knew how to respond. When a group of other center employees were in a group complaining, she spoke up and said, "We have fun at our senior center!" What a concept.
Last week's news
Did you celebrate No Socks Day on May 8? We did, rather belatedly. One of our kitchen crew, who shall remain nameless, offered to remove her socks as soon as I announced the special day. We declined her offer.
Some of our art students have brought in paintings for our easels. Madonna Schafers and Albert Steele have shared their talent with us.
Elsie Reiswig used her computer to make Mother's Day placemats for us to use.
Norine Holtsclaw brought in one of her Mother's Day gifts, a child-size doll dressed as a fisher woman, complete with fishing pole and dangling fish.
We celebrated Jean Bailey's birthday May 14, a day early.
We want to correct the mileage total of our Walk Kansas Senior Center Sensations. We walked 460 miles and were the champion fruit and vegetable eaters.
Amanda Steiner gave a presentation as Ms. Wheelchair Kansas to us May 14. The group donated funds to help with her trip to the national competition.
Mark your calendars for June 12 when we will be taking a trip to the Crown Uptown Theater at Wichita to see "Church Basement Ladies." More information will be available later.
