Sassy Senior Moments
By JANET BRYANT

This was one of those weeks when you needed to be at the senior center every day to see what happened next. We had some show and tell items, a birthday, and some unexpected things.
Our show and tell items included a quilt brought in by Almeda Kahns, consisting of T-shirts collected by a family member. One was a button-front T-shirt with the buttons still on it. Mary Mae Hett brought in a green and white afghan she had crocheted.
We did several days of agricultural trivia to prove we were farmers at heart.
Eula Colle brought treats ahead of time to celebrate her Sept. 12 birthday.
Albert Steele came in to tell us his painting had won best of show in its category at the Kansas State Fair.
Charlie and Blanche Cowan brought their guest, David McCarthy, for lunch one day. He's from Nome, Alaska, riding his bicycle to Florida. Read all about him in the Sept. 13 issue of the Marion County Record.
We learned that the closing speaker at the Senior Fair in Salina Sept. 19 will be former Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder.
We had a marvelous musical time Sept. 13 when Mike Hadley brought his karaoke equipment. He sings well and demonstrated how things work. Then the fun began. We have great talent at the senior center. Sue Clough, Estelle McCarty, Madonna Schafers, Rosie Plenert, Leonard Klassen sang solos and duets. The music continued for an hour and a half. Then Noreen Weems came out of her office and requested Elvis! Mike Hadley sang "Jailhouse Rock" and "Teddy Bear." As Mary Ann Conyers left her wellness clinic post here we noticed her be-bopping to the music.
We hope you'll join us for lunch Sept. 27 for a different type of program given by Jill Bremyer-Archer of Bremyer & Wise law office in Hillsboro. She will talk about elder abuse.
Sept. 3-9
It's been a slow week here at the senior center, with the Labor Day holiday interfering with our routines. Everyday since, we've had to ask which day it actually is anyway.
We celebrated June Jost's birthday Aug. 31. He later brought in an interesting drawing of a cross done by a prisoner at Marion County Jail when June was sheriff.
We recognized Albert Steele as our official whiner. It became a one-day honor because he quickly became a non-whiner.
We took a snack personality test Sept. 6. One's preference for potato chips, tortilla chips, pretzels, or cheese curls resulted in a personality profile.
Lenore Dieter played the piano for us that day. She played hymns and classical music.
Come join us Sept. 20, which is Senior Center Day. Becky Lind, former dietitian with North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging will give a nutrition presentation.
