Sassy senior moments: Seniors already planning next Elvis birthday

Jan. 5-11
We had a nice crowd Monday to celebrate Elvis' birthday, including some in rolled-up jeans or full skirts and saddle oxfords. We had a display table of cherished items and played Elvis music all morning. The big Elvis beach towel still is hanging on the wall. It was Thelma Blosser's birthday so she had a cake decorated to honor both birthdays. Our speaker was not able to come due to her husband's serious illness. We filled in nicely with all sorts of memories, trips to Graceland, and being sung to by Elvis impersonators. Eileen Sieger came with part of her collection. Next year on Jan. 8 an Elvis impersonator from Wichita will perform late in the afternoon. The public is invited.
Jennifer Brown-Jacobs spoke Thursday. She will be teaching a class in drawing at Butler Community College at Marion. She brought examples of newspaper and magazine illustrations she had done.
We also have new art work by Keith and Norine Holtsclaw on our easels.
We took a van to Manhattan Tuesday for a retirement party for Shirley Spittles, director of field operations for North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging. Barb Kroupa drove. Passengers were Noreen Weems, Ivanlee Timm, Henrietta Waner, Janet Bryant, Blanche Cowan, Estelle McCarty, and Sue Clough.
Join us Jan. 25 for lunch. Our speaker will be Michael Jacobs, physical therapist at St. Luke Hospital.
Dec. 29- Jan. 4
As we ended one year and began 2006, we've celebrated three birthdays. This year the birthday hat may be worn by request. We've had fun in 2005, seeing a cake-with-candles, hat perched on birthday celebrants' heads.
Joyce Jackson celebrated Thursday, we helped Lanell Hett observe her birthday Tuesday, and Doris Ewert had a grand 88th birthday Wednesday.
USD 408 Superintendent of Schools Lee Leiker presented information on the proposed school building project.
We will be setting up some extra game days soon, so if you have a card or board game you enjoy and need other people to play, watch this column.
