Sassy Seniors: Birthdays, dogs, puns fill week
By JANET BRYANT
Senior center reporter
We've had birthdays, dogs, and puns this week.
Mary Mae Hett and Doris Bowyer brought treats June 20. The next day we celebrated Noreen Weems' birthday.
We have been hearing the world's worst puns and they were so bad we groaned when the punch line came.
Shirley Moore donated a 35mm camera as a fund-raiser. Albert Steele became the owner at the end of the week.
We had our monthly sing-along Wednesday. We've been singing every song we know, going backward in one of our songbooks. Shirley Bowers leads this activity with Ellen Darrow as pianist.
There was a crew here June 21 to put together the newsletter. The people who worked were Ivanlee and Mary Ann Timm, Virginia Downing, Elsie Reiswig, Beulah Weigart, Lydia Batt, Doris Bowyer, June and Lois Jost, Evelyn Jewett, Albert Steele, and Lindsey Hett.
Friday was "Take Your Dog to Work" day. We had a couple of plush dogs in raincoats that played "Singin' in the Rain." The star performer was Harley, the poodle who lives at the Aaron Hett home. Lanell and Lindsey Hett brought him and he performed tricks. He was quite a crowd pleaser.
As a public service this is a number to call to stop credit card offers: 1-888-567-8688.
We will have our Fourth of July picnic Friday with hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, and watermelon. Make a reservation to eat with us. We'll sing patriotic songs after lunch.
We will be closed July 4. Join us July 6 when our program will be Joyce Kellison, pianist, and Grace Yoder providing dramatic readings.
