Save me a seat at the Legend

I have just finished reading "East of Eden," by Kate Lehrer. It starts out like it might be fun but then it goes downhill. It's about two young women, one an American and one French. They meet in Paris and become friends. They want to become independent of men and find an interesting life of their own. They come to Kansas and settle on a homestead. The time is back in the 1800s.

Did I have the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick's Day! My neighbor likes to cook and often brings me some of his culinary efforts. Here he came with a big platter of corned beef and cabbage, deviled eggs, and an Irish pudding. So good.

Do you watch the Antique Road Show? I enjoy it. I am told that you should write a description and story about your family treasures. That seems to be important as different items are shown. Family histories so often get lost between the generations.

I can't get over how young people go to Florida, Cancun, and the mountains on spring break. It blows my mind. Now when I had a spring break, consisting of maybe a half-day, we all went out to a pasture pond and had a picnic. I can just hear the 2004 graduates groan — if they even read this.

I'm excited at the possibility of a movie theater in Marion.

When we had the old Kaw or Garden back in the '30s I used to send my children to the Saturday matinees. Cost a nickel or a dime — a cheap baby sitter. Save me a seat!
