Save time - shop locally

As the holiday season approaches it's a good time to remind folks to "shop at home."

The Christmas in Marion holiday promotion is an added incentive for holiday shoppers. By spending money with local participating merchants, shoppers have the opportunity to collect tickets that can be turned in for drawings for gift certificates.

The more customers spend, the more tickets they receive, and the better the chances their names may be chosen in the weekly random drawing or the grand prize drawing on Dec. 22.

There are other benefits to shopping locally. Folks miss the travel time required to get to the "big city." They don't have to fight the traffic, crowded shopping centers, disgruntled shoppers, and harried merchants.

When folks shop in Marion, merchants are friendly and happy to help. Money stays in Marion and taxes collected stay in Marion. That's a benefit throughout the year, not just during the holidays.

Customers say they are shopping out of town because local merchants don't have the selection or low prices available at large super centers. Most Marion merchants are happy to help customers with special orders or suggestions of other local businesses that might carry what a customer wants. Prices are reasonable because you're saving the time and money it takes to travel.

Granted, everything isn't available in Marion. But it makes sense to check first with local merchants and perhaps save yourself an unnecessary trip.
