School bond is approved by landslide

Collett, Winkler, Holdeman, Kline

to head city council

Marion voters went to the polls Tuesday and elected Stacey Collett, Gene Winkler, Bill Holdeman, and Jerry Kline to Marion City Council.

By a margin of three to one, residents of Marion-Florence USD #408 overwhelmingly approved the school bond issue to fund the construction of a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, and fine arts center, 988 to 347.

Collett and Winkler each received 519 votes; Holdeman 460; and Kline 355.

Collett and Winkler will serve four-year terms, and Holdeman and Kline will serve two-year terms.

The new council and members will take office at the city's next meeting which is at 4 p.m. Monday in the city building.

Incumbent Jim Crofoot and appointee Max Hayen, who was appointed to serve the unexpired term of the late commissioner Larry McLain, were not re-elected to their respective positions.
