School colors brighten walls at Centre

Several members of the Centre USD staff volunteered their time and effort this summer to make improvements in the commons area at Centre High School.
After Principal Nadine Smith gave the go-ahead, Stan Wiles removed the sports plaques which lined the upper walls overlooking the commons.
Smith, Kelly Steiner, and Jennifer Montgomery repainted the white walls. Afterward, a wide, bold, royal blue stripe was applied, with a narrower red stripe below it, to reflect the school colors.
Lynley Remy reorganized the plaques and grouped them by sport and date, and Wiles re-hung them. The new border provides a striking background.
Sharon Matz, a freelance artist, freehanded the name "Centre" and the Cougar logo along the front-facing upper wall. She also redid the pillars to present a marbling effect.
Tye Remy, president of Centre Student Council, and his sister, Katie, also helped with the project.
The concession room also was repainted, and Yvonne Burhoop installed a wood frame around the serving window.
According to Lynley Remy, the completed projects are just the beginning of a list of projects the student council has drawn up to improve the looks of the school and make it more inviting to everyone. More projects will be undertaken in the future.
The new superintendent, Jerri Kemble, has an artistic bent all her own. After she took over the reins July 1, she and her husband, Kurt, got busy at the central office at Centre Elementary School in Lost Springs.
Using a decorating method known as faux painting, they redid Kemble's office and the adjoining conference room. Her office reflects her love of color. The walls are a dazzling mixture of turquoise and royal blue highlighted with bronze.
