Schwartz son-in-law promoted to colonel
Dick and Margie Schwartz of Marion were proud to receive the news that the Secretary of the Navy recently promoted their son-in-law Ray Griffith USMC to the rank of colonel.
Griffith joins his father-in-law as a Marine entitled to wear the silver eagles denoting the rank of 0-6, full colonel.
Also, following in his father-in-law's footsteps, Griffith is a combat Marine. He is serving with the First Marine Division in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Schwartz served two combat tours in Vietnam and on other assignments overseas.
Colonel Griffith is married to the former Peri Ann Schwartz. They have three sons, Richard, Benjamin, and Daniel.
Colonel Griffith was commanding officer of the Fleet Anti-Terrorist Support Unit for three years at Norfolk, Va. He served with the 7th Marine Regiment during the Gulf War in 1991.
For the past 2 1/2 years, before being deployed to Iraq, he was commanding officer of the 2nd Bn., 25th Marine Regiment at Garden City, N.Y.
