Scott Mason
A graveside service for Joseph Scott Mason, 84, former Safeway district manager, was held Friday afternoon at Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado.
The Rev. Casey Borger officiated.
A memorial fund has been established in his name with the American Cancer Society.
He was the youngest of the seven children of Gilbert and Rosa (Entsminger) Mason, born at Bronson.
He attended schools at Ponca City, Okla., and graduated from high school there.
On. Nov. 27, 1939, he was married to Edna Marie Fulkerson at Eureka. The couple had three children, William, Jerry, and June.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 19, 1944, and served in combat during World War II where he earned the Bronze Star and received the Purple Heart.
He worked as a manager for the Safeway grocery company at El Dorado and Topeka, retiring in 1974 as district manager at Topeka.
He enjoyed golfing, gambling, and horse races.
Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters, he is survived by his wife, Marie, of the home; two sons, William of Kansas City, Mo. and Jerry of Houston, Texas; daughter, June Ann Rasmussen of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
