Senior board approves purchase of chairs
Additional folding chairs will be ordered for the Marion and Tampa senior centers.
The board of directors of Senior Citizens of Marion County, Inc., met Feb. 17 and approved the expense of 20 chairs for Marion and 36 for Tampa for $1,624. The chairs will be purchased from Navrat Office Supply of Emporia. However, it was discovered that the same chair at a comparable price can be ordered from Peabody Hardware and will be done in the future.
In other business:
— A request of $100 was granted from Florentine Senior Center of Florence to offset an increase to property insurance.
— Glenn Crowther was introduced as the new president and Doris Crowther the new vice president of Durham Senior Center.
— Noreen Weems, director of Marion County Department for Elderly, announced tentative dates for delivery of USDA commodities. They are today (Wednesday), May 10, Sept. 13, and Nov. 8.
— Virginia Downing reported she has assisted more than 100 people with income tax preparation, utility payment assistance, and drug prescription plans.
— Transportation coordinator Lanell Hett reported four trips in February, two health-related.
Tampa Senior Center will host the March 17 board meeting.
