Shirley Richards

Shirley H. Richards, 92, retired stone quarry official, died Sept. 8, 2002, at Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro.

Over his long span of service to the community he had been an automobile mechanic, tool and die worker at Boeing in Wichita, and general superintendent of Riddle Quarries, Inc.

He retired in 1972 and became a farmer and horse trader.

Born May 2, 1910, at Marion, he was the son of the late John and Emma Zoe (Fishburn) Richards.

He was married to Hattie Schmidt on June 6, 1952, in Marion. She died in 1989.

Survivors include sons Dennis of Woodland Park, Colo., and Gerald of Houston, Texas; daughter, Judith Hiebert of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service, conducted by members of the family, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zeiner Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Marion Cemetery. His body was cremated.
