Show up or shut up part two
Seldom, if ever does a newspaper have two editorials with the same headline. Maybe you'll get the idea — it's important.
Marion residents interested in a new form of government are encouraged to step up to the challenge and file for one of those city council seats.
For the past few months we've been hearing the rumblings from disgruntled city residents. Instead of sitting around complaining about "the way things are," get off your butts and run for city council.
Think Marion should spend more money on city street repairs? Think we need more (or less) police protection? Think we need more concentration on business development? Think we're spending too much money on new pickup trucks and other equipment?
There are others who echo your sentiments. You can be the one to sign on the dotted line, throw your hat in the ring, and make a stand for what you think is right for the city of Marion.
We're on the brink of change. Marion is ready for revolutionary ideas — YOUR ideas.
Just because "it's the way it's always been" doesn't mean it has to stay that way. Don't let tired old ghosts of "Marion Past" keep you from filing. Don't assume the same people will file for office and win.
You CAN make a difference, but if you don't file, you can't win. If you don't file, a year from now you'll still be sitting on your butts, complaining about the way things are.
Deadline to file for city council is noon Jan. 24 at Marion city office.
