Siebert to host Hereford tour

The first stop on the 2002 Kansas Hereford Association tour Aug. 9-10 will be at the Diamond X Hereford Ranch west of Marion, owned by Rex and Vernolis Siebert.

The Sieberts will be serving a breakfast of doughnuts, coffee, and juice.

In addition to a pen of sale bulls and a pen of bred heifers, Rex will have on display four cow/calf pairs. Those who attend will be asked to place the pairs in order of superiority. They also will guess the total weight of the four pairs.

The top two pairs chosen will be shown at the Kansas State Fair in September.

The group then will proceed to a pasture three and one-half miles north of Florence on Yarrow, where Rex summers his cows. Open heifers and fall-calving cows will be in catch pens for visitors' observation.

Mark Tajchman also will have a few commercial cow/calf pairs on display.

At the pasture, Rex will announce the winner of the weight-guessing contest, who will receive a prize. At 9:30 a.m., the group will proceed to the next stop on the tour.
