Skip and Eileen Sieger left last Monday for Colorado where they spent the week at Woodland Park. From there they drove over Independence Pass to Aspen, toured the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, and drove to Cripple Creek. They were lucky to miss driving in the snow out there which was really something on I-70 west of Denver. They had been on that highway the day before the storm. While at Woodland Park, they visited with Cinda Hauser Reed, a friend from Marion, who lives there. Skip and Eileen visited the Kansas State Fair on Saturday and spent Sunday afternoon at the flea market at the Coliseum.
Doris Geis Howard from North Platte, Neb., was visiting in Hutchinson and called Marilyn Geis to get a few people together who Doris would remember so Marilyn called Dorothy and John Hayen, Virginia Downing, and Max Hayen to come for a visit with Doris. Doris' family used to live in Marion and had the Kroger store. They had a great afternoon of sharing memories. Doris was accompanied by Dorothy Beltz from Hutchinson.
Rose Olive Hett, Shirley Bowers, and I attended UMW at Eastmoor Wednesday afternoon. Rose Olive helped Ruth Viets and Wanda Carr host the event.
Jeannine Bateman was in Topeka Wednesday through Friday at the Kansas County Treasurer's fall meeting. She didn't have meetings Thursday evening, so got to spend the whole evening with Kristine.
Edmund Steiner and Vicki Smolik attended a hog roast Saturday evening at the home of Randy and Kathy Svitak.
Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler, Kathy and Paul Swan, and Justine and Katrina Griffin, Kandace and Kassidy went camping this past weekend at Melvern.
Don and Ruth Viets and Shirley Bowers drove to Wichita last Monday to the Conference Archives Committee meeting.
L.Dena and Cy Goertz had dinner Sunday at Clint and Dianna Jost's home, then drove on to Cottonwood Falls to visit L.Dena's sister, Betty June Samson.
Rosalene and Charles Stinchcomb visited their daughter and husband, Susie and Dick Mueller, in Mentor Thursday.
Jo Gearhart from Wichita came Friday night and spent the night with me. We went to the Grandmothers' Tea at the Three Sisters in Canton Saturday noon, then drove on to McPherson to shop for fabric. I have enough material to put two quilts together and several baby quilts. So if I get snowed in this winter I will have plenty to keep me busy. We also purchased crochet thread to finish a project started many years ago by her mother-in-law Ruth Gearhart. I put the needed edge on the dresser scarf and it looks quite nice. Ruth did such beautiful handwork I find it a challenge to finish her work. My sister had a hard time finding someone who did hemstitching so I could crochet around this scarf. She did find a man at Yoder that does this and she discovered we can do this on our machines if we have a buttonhole stitch and the proper needle. She found a needle in one of my notion catalogs so as soon as I get it ordered, I will be able to place hemstitching around pillowcases etc.
Ken and Margie Nienstedt went to Herington Sunday afternoon to visit Weldon and RoseMary Deines. They attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration honoring Victor and Madonna Schafers and Tillie and Tony Schafers Saturday evening at St. Mark's Activity Center.
