Sign up now for Old Settlers' Day parade

"Volunteers: The Backbone of Our Community" is this year's theme of the 96th annual Old Settlers' Day parade.

Weekend festivities begin Sept. 28 with a golf tournament at Marion Country Club. Following Friday night's homecoming football game, the public is invited to an open house at the country club.

Old Settlers' Day run begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 29 at Marion County Lake with a 5k run followed by a one-mile fun run. Register at Marion Chamber of Commerce.

The parade is at 11 a.m. Sept. 29. Lineup is on Walnut Street and side streets. The parade will begin at Walnut and Main streets and go east to Elm Street.

Following the parade, a picnic will be held at Central Park with Marion Kiwanis Club serving a beef burger meal. Games for all ages will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a performance by Marion High School band at 2 p.m., and class introductions at 2:30 p.m.

Parade participants are encouraged to contact Casey Case at (620) 382-2106 prior to the parade so a number can be assigned to make lining up more organized.

A community dance, sponsored by the class of 1987, will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Marion County Lake Hall.
