Soft-hearted hunter goes hungry

I would probably starve to death if it were up to me to go out and shoot some kind of game. I watched some bird hunters on TV. I felt sad when they shot down the beautiful pheasants they had startled from the tall grass. Take deer with their sad eyes staring and making the hunter feel guilty for bringing down such a fine animal.

I have probably told you my duck story. A neighbor lady gave my little daughter, Mary a small white duck. It grew and it grew and she no longer played with it, so why not have roast duck? A school girl (a farm girl) was living with us so I asked her to prepare it (isn't that terrible?). I baked it to a golden brown color and put it on the table. We passed it around and no one took a piece. None of us could bare to eat our own pet.

If you missed seeing the Marion High School production "Seussical," you missed a wonderful treat. Every participant played his or her part perfectly. Janet and her helpers have done it again! I went Sunday afternoon and the theater was packed. That was the third showing. It just goes to show that people are hungry for entertainment, especially for romance, fantasy, and music. I know it takes hard work, persistence, and practice, practice, practice.

I'm now reading "Founding Mothers" by Cokie Roberts. It emphasizes the fact that behind a great man there usually is a great woman. She writes about those unsung women who even fought in the Revolutionary War or kept the home fires burning while their husbands were off to war.
