Sportsmen enjoy nice weather at county lake

What a pretty weekend! We had a couple of campers and lots of fishermen out enjoying the nice weather. And, we really sold the fishing licenses. It kept both of us busy writing them Saturday and Sunday.

Crappie fishing at the heated dock still is slow, but several nice bass were caught around the lake along with some nice channel.

Pete Williams caught two dandy wipers weighing 7 1/4 and 6 pounds on Saturday. I sure would like to catch one that big.

The white bass should be starting to run in the upper end of the reservoir. We heard there were lots of fishermen up there, but didn't hear of any catches.

Walleye fishing on the dam should be close, too.

Dale took the water temperature Saturday and it was 54 degrees.

The turkey hunters were out in full force. Turkey season opened last Wednesday, but most of the hunting was done over the weekend. John Waner got his and we heard of several others.

We saw lots of turkeys when we were in Chase County last week. One walked right through our yard while we were eating lunch outside.

I sure hope the pasture burners are about done, The smoke about choked us to death last week. At least this week there is enough wind to blow the smoke away, probably too windy to burn, too.

I was going to wash my car last week, but every morning it was covered with ash, so I decided to wait a while longer. We need some rain now to green things up. It sure is getting dry again.

As the weather gets warmer, we are getting lots of walkers and runners using the lake. Please watch out for them. Slow down and give them room. Remember, the speed limit around the houses is 25 mph and around the lake hall and campground is 10 mph. The rest of the lake is 35 mph.

When you come in for your fishing and boat permits, remember to get a dock permit. It's free and this helps us update our records. If your name and number isn't on your dock, or in our book, you can't run anyone off your dock if you want to use it. Also, if your dock needs new boards or repairs, do so as soon as possible as people are coming out to fish and use them. If you have a dock out here, it's up to you to keep it in good shape. There are lots of people wanting dock spots, so if you don't want yours anymore, let us know.

We heard yesterday that Bill Carter died. He and his wife had a house here for many years. Also, Dean Fincham is in St. Luke Hospital. He was in a car accident and will be there for a few days. I know he would appreciate calls or cards from you. Hurry home, Dean!
