Some bananas, quickly going over the hill, were the inspiration for the living center bakers this week. We were a little skeptical about the recipe before placing the first batch into the oven but the banana nut drop cookies "performed" well and provided a nice change. We may try them again and add chips (of an unknown flavor).
We appreciated Bill Schimpf taking the bingo-caller's spot Friday afternoon while Amelia, Alice, and Sue attended the funeral of our friend Fern Palmer. Several other members of the living center family also were in attendance.
Thank you to Pastor Phil of Valley United Methodist Church who brought his daughters, Allison and Alexa, with him for the Sunday afternoon service. The Smith girls, with Shirley Bowers at the piano, certainly enhanced our living center chorus.
The first of each work-week is a time of transformation and most of it takes place in our small beauty shop. Monday mornings Khrista works her magic, primarily on hands and nails. On Tuesdays, our beautician Bonnie is here, using scissors and/or curlers and hair dryers to obtain the desired results. Quite an extraordinary little room.
This past Tuesday the book club met in the morning to move with the Ingalls family to the shores of Silver Lake where Pa took a job with the railroad as the company storekeeper and timekeeper. Their temporary home was a one-way roof shanty.
After lunch, the crafters got together and used a sacking fabric to make little leprechaun treat bags, filled with candies and tied with green ribbon and attached to a handmade gift tag poem. It took everyone to make this project "fly," including Margaret Hein who had just dropped by to visit friends. Now she has even more friends.
Sometime in recent days Marion High School FCCLA leprechauns brought St. Patrick's Day door decorations and hung them at each residential room. This probably indicates it's time for the paper snowflakes, large sunflowers, and heart-shaped decorations to retire.
It's doubtful if Jim and Carol Hett and Ellen Darrow slipped in unnoticed last Wednesday evening — just undocumented. This family feels like part of our family and we enjoy their music and fellowship each trip.
Possibly we should mention our exercise group has moved into the realm of sports officiating. We practiced signals for touchdowns and/or good field goals and also the sometimes appropriate "no good" signal during football season. Now we find the same TD signal works for three-point basketball goals and we are great with traveling calls. We don't dress in black and white shirts yet — give us time.
