St. Luke Living Center residents enjoyed sampling a variety of cookies this past week.

Longtime friend Polly Ferrell was there the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 19, to share a fall soliloquy of readings and poems and a basket of colorful leaves and acorns. According to Polly, "Fall is best when served with pumpkin cookies!" So she also brought several dozen freshly baked ones, plus the recipe. Residents enjoyed the delicious cookies which were served with hot spiced cider.

On Friday morning, residents baked "Wyoming Whopper" cookies which were advertised as "great for hungry cowboys, but not just for wranglers." The group thought the recipe, from a women in Powell, Wyo., a bit unusual as it used no flour, just regular oats.

In the afternoon, Pat Smith and her sister-in-law, Shirley Smith, from New York state, were present to call bingo. Evidently the Wyoming Whoppers were edible, as the women served them with juice following the final bingo game.

Doug and Kathy Spencer of Oakley and the Rev. Mike Eurit of Eastmoor United Methodist Church came Sunday afternoon and brought a message in song and word. Mrs. Spencer played the piano as her husband sang. It was so beautiful, we were reluctant to have them leave. Shirley Bowers joined the group for the service.

The craft project for Tuesday afternoon was orange pomander candleholders which were made by scooping out a small hole in the top of an orange and popping in a tealight. The candles were surrounded with cloves and lighted. The soft light and subtle citrus/clove scent was enjoyed as the they were warmed by the candles. Magdalen Dvorak also helped make some pipe cleaner spiders with button bodies before she passed around a container of delicious kolaches.

In lieu of current events Wednesday afternoon, Amanda helped make some large skeletons following the instructions and example Polly Ferrell brought last week. The bony specimens are made of paper plate cutouts held together by brad fasteners and nearly cover a door.

The gloomy weather Thursday afternoon didn't stop the scarecrow tour that had been planned. Khrista Branson and Shirley Bowers drove their vehicles and Al Ash drove the senior center van. The vehicles were filled with residents and the group traveled to Tampa, Ramona, and Lost Springs before returning home to check out their own scarecrows.
