St. Luke Living Center

We made more Christmas goodies Friday morning and as usual, our living center bakers were up to the task. Using round snack crackers, peanut butter, and almond bark in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors, we created colorful, sweet sandwiches.

Another "act of Christmas kindness" was experienced Saturday morning when Gene Vinduska and his accordion arrived (not down the chimney) to play for our enjoyment. He and "Elka" were not even on our calendar!

The Rev. Josh Wesner of Emmanuel Baptist Church was the Sunday afternoon guest minister.

After getting "prettied-up" Monday morning, we were in the mood to make some additional goodies including dipped pretzels.

Later in the afternoon the Kids for Christ group from Eastmoor United Methodist Church were here and delivered the cinnamon stick Christmas tree crafts they had made for each resident. We shared the covered pretzels we had made with them.

In the evening, Lillian Stenzel's daughters brought a beautifully decorated cake and chocolate chip ice cream which they served to everyone in honor of Lillian's birthday.

Tuesday afternoon we enjoyed more delicious goodies when the hospital auxiliary women brought a large variety to share. Penny Marler, Jean Case, and Iris Summers served the treats, along with coffee, and spent the afternoon visiting with residents. We tried to sample them all.

We enjoyed hearing the women's barbershop carolers later that day. It had been a while since they visited.

Lois Winter was our hymn sing pianist Thursday morning. At noon the Lunch Bunch took advantage of the beautiful December weather to eat out. Amelia Vinduska, Aline Bernhardt, Dick Goering, Mel Brewer, David Bowers, and Alice Van Buren were joined by Joann Fitzpatrick, Shirley Bowers, and Khrista Branson.

The living center elves have been quite busy decorating the halls, walls, windows, doors, ceilings, and whatever else holds still. We have three Christmas trees, large, medium, and small. Our courtyard is seasonal with a nativity scene, and we have lighted trees in front of the facility, always remembering the "reason for the season."
