Everyone enjoys a party and the living center celebrated the June birthdays of Pearl Baxter, Phyllis Enos, and Jane Williams Wednesday afternoon. Pearl's friends, Margaret Cook and Alberta Pritz, brought delicious cakes and ice cream to share with our residents and staff.
Thursdays usually are the day the "lunch bunch" takes a noon trip to eat out. This week, Dick Goering, Mel Brewer, Doris Hett, Alice Van Buren, David Bowers, Amelia Vinduska, Khrista Branson, and Sue Gutsch filled the cars of volunteers, Shirley Bowrs and Joann Fitzpatrick. We were gone for a couple of hours and enjoyed seeing the golden wheat fields as well as the rows of young corn and milo. Of course, lunch itself, including the french fries, was a nice treat.
The weekends are not scheduled with many activities, but every other Saturday morning Gene Vinduska, our Myron Floren, spends an hour or so with us playing his accordion, singing some of the songs as well. The polkas always are a favorite, but Gene includes a variety of other music and he just gets better and better.
Our Sunday afternoon guest minister was Phil Smith of Valley and Lincolnville United Methodist churches. Eleven residents joined Pastor Phil in our chapel to listen to his spiritual message.
We were pleased to have Marie Navrat volunteer to be the "fourth" at a table of pitch players on Monday afternoons. Pearl Thompson, Happy Slifer, and Amelia Vinduska were the other players this week. With a little boning-up, we soon may be able to take on all comers.
On one hall in our facility we have a large temporary display of pictures all taken by Les Broadstreet for a family through the years.
It's our feeling our Thursday morning "pretty up" activity may have been misconstrued. This is not an exclusive women's event. Our gentlemen residents utilize the manicures and upkeep offered as well.
