Staci and Fred Silhan are wed

Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church was the setting Jan. 4, 2003, for the wedding of Staci Joan Thurston of Hillsboro and Frederick Ruben Silhan of Pilsen.

Bruce Porter, pastor of the church, officiated at the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Lou and Lori Thurston of Hillsboro and granddaughter of Jim and JoAnn Thurston of Burdick and Art and Harriet Suderman and Vi Suderman of Hillsboro. Terry and Kathy Silhan of Pilsen are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Maxine Svitak of Pilsen and Ella Winter of Marion.

Instrumental music was provided by LeOra Grunau, organist, and Karla Teljanove, pianist.

Candlelighters were Mayra Aguirra and Bethany Waring, both of Emporia.

Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a full-length satin gown featuring a scalloped-edged bodice trimmed with beads and sequins. Her elbow-length veil fell from a cut stone headpiece. The bridal bouquet was an arrangement of red roses, hypericum berries, and heather.

Jessi Weisbeck of Hillsboro attended her sister as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were the groom's sister Meggan Daniel of Wichita and Jessica Ollenburger of Hillsboro. The bride's personal attendant was Laurie Hadley of Manhattan.

Ellian Weisbeck of Hillsboro, niece of the bride, was flower girl and the groom's cousin Cody Winter of Marion was ring bearer.

Kevin Steiner of Lincolnville served the groom as best man. Geoff Daniel of Wichita, brother-in-law of the groom, and Todd Winter of Marion, cousin of the groom, were groomsmen.

Guests were seated by Lucas Carlson, Kelly Steiner, Damien Svitak, and Shane Svitak.

Catherine Dekler and Crystal Castropp of Emporia were the guestbook attendants. Erica Saltzman of Lehigh was the greeter.

Following the ceremony, the bride's aunts and uncles were hosts at the reception in the church's fellowship hall. Reception attendants were Sara, Toshia, and Nadia Foth of Kerman Calif., Kelsi and Grant Suderman of Garnett, and Michael, Tyler, and Adam Suderman of Hillsboro.

The bride is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and is a senior at Emporia State University where she is majoring in marketing. The groom is a graduate of Centre High School and is a senior at Kansas State University-Salina majoring in mechanical engineering in technology.

Following a honeymoon cruise to Cozumel, the couple lives in Salina. They plan to move in June to Sidney, Ohio, where the groom will be employed as a plant engineer with Cargill.

Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom's parents, was held Jan. 3 at the Hillsboro Scout House.
