Stay for the game
Imagine if you will, attending a Warriors football game. It's a beautiful night for football, not too hot, not too cold, a full moon rising across the field. The stands are full and the Warriors are winning.
This is a realistic scenario — in fact, it happened Friday night.
Now, imagine it's the third quarter. The Warriors have a comfortable lead. The referee calls a time-out and the Warriors head for the sidelines. But, instead of huddling around the coaches to see what the next play will be, they head for the locker room.
Impossible, you say. They'd never do that. They'd lose the game. Coaches wouldn't stand for it. Fans would be upset!
Now, put yourself in the shoes of the players. It's third quarter. They're out on the field, making tackles and plays, working to put more points on the board, even though they already lead by a comfortable margin. They look into the home stands and what do they see? A half-empty stadium and people leaving.
Is this how we support the home team? Athletes are there for the whole game. Fans should stay, as well.
It's great to be in the stands when the band plays the alma mater and the Star-Spangled Banner. Stick around for the end of the game. It's just as awesome to see the teams walk off the field after the typical high-fives and "good game" handshakes. After all, athletes deserve our support for the whole game.
