Steady finger earns new bicycle
Donny Warren, son of Jim and Mary Warren of Marion, has a sore finger and a new bicycle.
He won a 21-speed Huffy Variex by calling into a promotional contest sponsored by Nickelodeon, a cable television network carried by Galaxy Cablevision.
"It was a toll-free number, so I decided to give it a go," he said Thursday.
Callers nationwide were eligible for prizes, including $1 million. It was a promotion for the movie "Clockstoppers."
Donny dialed and redialed and redialed. When asked how long, Donny held up four fingers.
Minutes?
"Hours," he said. His father finally told him he couldn't use the phone all day.
"Just as he said that, I got through," Donny said. The operator told him he won the bike. It arrived this past week.
The colorful bike with suspension system, thick knobby tires, and 21 speeds has received a great deal of use already. Donny rides it to school regularly.
