Stephen Herrmann
Stephen J. Herrmann, 60, of Herington, died Oct. 14, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
Born Aug. 28, 1943, at Sabetha, he was the son of Alvin H. and Mary M. (Hoffman) Herrmann.
On Aug. 25, 1962, he married Patricia L. Reid at Sabetha.
He was a 1961 graduate of Sabetha High School. He received a bachelor's degree in education from Kansas State Teachers College in 1966 and his master's degree in physical education in 1970.
From 1966 to 1969 he taught school at Delphos in the Minneapolis school district.
He was a social science teacher and football and track coach at Herington High School from 1969 until his retirement in May 2000.
Herrmann was a member of the Herington Country Club, Kansas Coaches' Association, Kansas chapter of the National Education Association, and the National Education Association. He was a past member of the Herington Jaycees chapter and a past member of the Herington Lions Club. He also served on the Herington Recreation Commission for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Diane Herrmann of Silver Lake and Craig and Kiffany Herrmann of Wichita; his mother, Mary Herrmann of Sabetha; and five grandchildren.
A vigil service was held Friday evening at Herington.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Herington, with the Rev. Mark Wesely officiating. Burial was Saturday afternoon at Sabetha Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Dunavan officiating.
A scholarship fund is being established in his name with Herington High School.
