Story entries accepted until Dec. 9
Entries are being accepted for the 2006 Kansas Factual Story Contest sponsored by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas.
This annual contest encourages the preservation in writing of factual, unpublished happenings and anecdotes in the lives of Kansans.
Olive Ann Beech, of Wichita, has provided cash awards for winners for more than 30 years. Since her death, this support has been continued by her daughter, Mary Lynn Oliver, of Wichita.
Beach Memorial Cash Awards are: first place, $175; second place, $100; and $50 each for two honorable mentions.
The contest is open to anyone in the U.S. Stories should have taken place in Kansas in earlier days, be limited to 750 words, be factual, and not have been published. Only one story per person. Entries must be postmarked no later than Dec. 9.
A panel from the Kansas State Historical Society will judge the stories. Winners will be announced at the annual meeting of the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas on Jan. 27, 2006, in Topeka.

Entrants are asked to keep copies of their entries because none will be returned. All stories will be preserved in the manuscript department of the Kansas State Historical Society.
