Strecker, guests attend alumni banquet

My sister, Lorena Pospisil and husband Bob of Libuse, La., came to my place May 22 after spending two days in Wichita with our brother, Emil Pospisil. They were here until Memorial Day morning. The Pospisils visited Alfred and Darlene Sondergard on Friday, then visit Helen Schwartzman in Tampa.
Clark Strecker, Laura Drebon, and Tailor Strecker of Andover came to my place May 23 and stayed until the morning of Memorial Day. On the 24th, Clark, Laura, Tailor, Bob, Lorena, and I met Douglas Strecker in Marion and ate our dinner at The Big Scoop. Afterward we went to the cemetery to decorate graves.
Bob, Lorena, and I attended the Lost Springs alumni banquet and program May 24. It was so nice meeting our friends from far and near. There were 89 present. The next banquet will be in May 2006. I was the only one of my class present, we graduated 70 years ago. Five of our class still are living. My sisters, Helen Schwartzman of Tampa and Irene Krch of Phoenix, Ariz., graduate in 1925. There are five in their class still living.
Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Wichita visited Clark, Laura, Austin, and Tailor at my house the evening of May 24.
Lorena, Bob, and I ate at Butch's Café in Tampa May 25 with Helen Schwartzman, Victoria and Gay Zell of Shelby, Mont., Emil Pospisil, Helen Jean McGonigle and friend Larry and Wayne and Marita Schwartzman, and John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina. We visited at Helen's home after dinner and celebrated the birthdays of Gay and Emil.
It was a shock to her of the death May 22 of our dear neighbor, Francis Hajek. He and I would joke around over the telephone when I wanted news. He was a friendly and gentle fellow, always ready to help someone. Douglas Strecker of Hesston attended his funeral at the Pilsen church.
Hallie Novak and I handed out poppies May 23 in Lost Springs. Hallie placed poppy wreaths on veterans' graves on Memorial Day morning while Bob Bevan placed the flags.
Bob Thornhill, Larry Rudolph, and I distributed commodities May 23 at the Ramona Senior Center.
Alex Stuchlik and others played polka music at Pilsen Saturday afternoon during the Father Kapaun celebration.
Mervin and Leona Deines drove to McPherson Saturday night to visit Stanley and Lizetta Stout. Mervin and Leona went to Lincolnville to attend the confirmation of their granddaughter Jessica Deines, daughter of Jeff and Gayla Deines at St. John's Lutheran Church. Later, Jessica's parents hosted a barbecue at their home in honor of the event. Guests were Mervin and Leona Deines, Charles and Darlene Gutsch of Burdick, Perry Gutsch and two children,, Weldon and Rosemary Deines of Herington, Ross and Debbie Coup, Samantha and Adam of Hope, Terry and Julie Deines, Makenzie and Dylan, and Shelby and Justin Deines.
Leah Cheever and son Don of Salina visited me, Clark, Laura, and Tailor the morning of May 26. They had been to the Lost Spring Cemetery and were en route to College Hill to place flowers on Leah's folks' graves.
Larry Rudolph visited with Mike and Karen Walsh Tuesday evening, then stopped to check on me.
Sonja Strecker of Dallas, Texas, and Adele Lange of Newton picked me up Friday afternoon and we went to McPherson. Then we went to Hesston and visited Douglas. Douglas brought me home that night.
Clark and Laura were here Thursday evening to get her boat. They were going to Kaw Reservoir, near Ponca City, Okla., to do some fishing. Fishing was not too good was their report.
Tom Reznicek of Baldwin City spent Friday night and Saturday with Irma and Bob Reznicek and helped Bob with some field work on Saturday. Bob hosted a birthday party for his mother Saturday night at their home. Guests included Tom Reznicek, Bob and Carol Makovec, Chanel and Hunter Makovec, Amy Makovec, Ellie and Shelby, Colleen Klug, Nicole and Alison, Troy and Robyn Heitfield, Taylor and Madison, and Angie Stika, Macayla, Alex, and Miranda.
Bob and Irma Reznicek attended the celebration at Pilsen Sunday honoring Chaplain Emil A. Kapaun.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended the Memorial Day service at Lewis Cemetery and the picnic dinner in the Ramona park. That evening they had a barbecue supper at their home. Guests were Fred and Marguerite Utech, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob and Jorge of Hillsboro, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, and Neil and Jolene Albrecht and Kallie Jo of Salina.
Mary Loewen of Hillsboro and her mother Irma Reznicek drove to Derby Monday to visit Lori Torline, Jennifer, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew.
Jayson and Jan Hanschu hosted a birthday party Saturday afternoon for their son, Jakob. He was six years old. Jakob had five of his friends (also six years old) at his party. Other guests were Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu, Joe and JoAnn Nowak of Pilsen, Jolene Albrecht and Kallie of Salina, Fred and Marguerite Utech, Tim and Jennifer Frasier of Wichita, and Jakob's brother Jorge.
Charles and Lori Smithhart of Hillsboro hosted a birthday party Friday evening for Adella Katz. Supper guests were Adella, Steve, and Selma Ingram.
Janene Sader of Lincolnville entertained with a barbecue supper Saturday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Sader and family, Adella Katz, Steve Katz, Charles and Lori Smithhart, Selma Ingram, and Barbie Katz of Lawrence.
We received 1 1/2 inches of rain in this area. Irma Benda says they got .70. It is a bad time for haying alfalfa, but good for gardens and pastures.
