Stuchliks attend grandson's baptism

Alex and Jean Stuchlik went to Wichita Sunday to attend the baptism of their grandson, Peter Vincent Burns, son of Bob and Debbie Burns at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Sponsors were Rita Stuchlik, Wichita, and Paul Burns, Chicago, Ill. A reception was held at the home of Bob and Debbie.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik went to the Polka Club hog roast and dance Saturday at the Marion Lake hall.
Junior and Jeanette Hanschu went to Hillsboro Elementary School Saturday morning to watch their grandson, Jakob Hanschu, play soccer. Jakob is the son of Jayson and Jan Hanschu of Hillsboro.
Steve Katz of Overland Park came home Saturday to visit with his mother, Adele Katz. He went back Sunday afternoon. He also visited with his grandma, Selma Ingram.
Douglas Strecker, Hesston, was at my farm. He worked some ground then mowed the lawn until he had a flat tire. He brought a raspberry pie that was really good. We had vegetable soup for dinner and steak for supper. I made two pumpkin pies and sent one home with him.
Mervin and Leona Deines attended the Carroll Shields benefit dinner Sunday after church at the St. John Lutheran Church in Lincolnville.
Junior and Jeanette Hanschu, Fred and Marguerite Utech, and Erich Utech went to the Schlesener reunion dinner Sunday at the Woodbine Café. Approximately 45 attended.
I received a call Sunday morning from my cousin Shirley Phye, Canon City, Colo. She and Elton wanted to know how I was doing. She was busy canning four bushels of peaches, plums, and berries. She made a lot of jams and jellies. She also said they could use some rain.
Larry Rudolph visited me Wednesday night. He is going to bale my alfalfa Tuesday. Ronnie Hanschu swathed it Friday morning.
Darren Hajek, Salina, visited his parents, Ronnie and Leona Hajek and brother Trent and grandma Mildred Hajek over the weekend. Darren and Trent visited Saturday evening with Douglas and me.
I took a nap Sunday after dinner and then fed the cats. Later I sat on the east porch and watched the variegated yellow maple leaves sail in the air and land on the green grass. I could hear Monty Stuchlik combining his milo a quarter mile away. There were a lot of ladybugs flying everywhere, some would land on my shoulders. The temperature was 86 degrees.
I received a letter from my cousin Ida Benda, Madera, Calif. She wrote she went on a trip with her son Scott. They saw gorges, valleys, waterfalls, and beautiful flat farmland around Salt Lake City, Utah, and Boise, Idaho. They have plenty of water for irrigating the farmland.

Alex Stuchlik's band played Saturday at the Bull Durham celebration in Durham. The band also played Oct. 4 at the Octoberfest in Lincolnville.
Junior and Jeanette Hanschu went to Salina Sunday afternoon for shopping. They stopped at the home of Neil and Jolene and Kallie Albrecht, but they were not home.
Mervin Deines and his brother Weldon Deines, Herington, went to Wichita Friday to visit his brother Vernon and wife Bonnie.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik helped their grandson Zachary Stuchlik celebrate his 4th birthday on Saturday. Other guests included Christopher and Melissa Stuchlik and boys, Zachary's parents Gary and Jo Ann Stuchlik and siblings, Derek, Amanda, Nicholas, Maria, and Abigail.
Marissa Makovec called Sunday night. She said she and Gail just got home from Tampa where the Santa Fe Trail Fest was held at the ball diamond. She was putting away the colors and paints. There were about 40 children decorating their pumpkins.
Bob and Irma Reznicek attended the wedding dance Saturday night of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Vinduska at the Pilsen Community Center. Also attending were Alex and Jean Stuchlik. Alex said the polka music was good. The Sue and Blue River Czech band played. They are from Crete, Neb.
Larry Rudolph visited Saturday night. He said he planned to go to the Santa Fe Trail Fest Sunday afternoon.
Bob and Carol Makovec and Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro visited Sunday evening with Irma and Bob Reznicek.
Since we had about two inches of rain the farmers are not able to do any field work. There is wheat to be planted, alfalfa to be swathed and baled, and the milo is too green to be combined.
Michael Lafette was here Sunday morning. He still has some painting to do on my milk house and house. He has had the flu virus and the rains have kept him from finishing the painting.
Marcel and Irma Benda and son William went to the Vinduska wedding dance Saturday night. The Bob Vinduskas will live in Lincolnville.
I talked with Anna Mae Stika Oct. 7 and she said her daughter Lisa Hanschu and Marianne Wyatt had gone to Houston, Texas, to prepare for a bone marrow harvest. They would return some time in the latter part of the week. Anna Mae was here on the farm taking care of the grandchildren, James and Anna Weber, while Ron was in the field planting wheat during the night. Ron works at Hope Elevator during the day.
