Summer too short for most MHS students

"Time flies when you are having fun." That statement is true for students during summer vacation. Most feel summer vacation is too short.
Many students lift weights during the 6 to 10 a.m. period each day.
"I go to weights at about eight o'clock and stay for about an hour," said senior Nick Hett, who is involved in basketball and golf.
The cross-country team is already getting started for the year. "I went to practice at the stadium at 7:00," said junior Alissa Vogel.
Vogel also enjoyed a tour of the west coast this summer with her church group. "I will also be going to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado with my family soon," she said.
Chelsea Arnhold has stayed busy this summer with weightlifting and cheerleading, dance, and wrestling camps.
Money is always important for students. Emma Parli is employed at both the Marion City Pool and Carlsons' Grocery. "I like my jobs," she said, "at the pool it's fun and at the grocery store it's pretty laid back and I work with a lot of my friends."
Many businesses employ Marion High School students.
Michelle Meisse has a slightly different outlook. "Summer vacation is boring. I don't have a job and I'm not 16 yet!" she said. "When I am 16 it's hopeful that I'll have more fun."
As the summer winds down, students start thinking about going back to school. "I've enjoyed my summer immensely," said Vogel, "and I'm NOT ready for school to start."
