Supper, auction to benefit soldier, family
Marion VFW Post 6958, Ladies Auxiliary, and American Legion are sponsoring a benefit soup supper and auction March 9 for U.S. Army Sgt. Ryan Newell and his family at the post home, 420 W. Santa Fe, Marion.
Sgt. Newell is married to Carrie Wunderlick, the daughter of Tom and Shawn Wunderlick of Marion. Carrie and her three children returned to Marion to live shortly before Ryan was wounded.
Sgt. Newell was wounded last month in Afghanistan and is recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
The supper and auction are from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be three kinds of soup, bread, crackers, vegetable trays, and desserts for a free-will donation.
